My artistic journey has been significantly shaped by my roots in the new federal states of Germany and my time spent in Algeria from the ages of 6 to 8. These extraordinary experiences have sharpened my creative perspective and profoundly influenced my artistic development.
My career in dance began in 1989 with my first training at the Dance Company of Petra Kibbel in Ilmenau. After completing my high school education in Ilmenau in 1996, I decided to pursue studies in Sports and History at the University of Erfurt. However, my true passion has always been dance, leading me to pause my studies in 1997 to undergo an intensive semester at the School for Contemporary Dance / Immo Birgit Buhl in Nuremberg.
In October 1997, my son Ben was born, who has been with me ever since. Thus began my life as a single mother and artist. In 1999, I continued my pedagogical studies at the German Sport University Cologne. Upon my first visit to Cologne, I was captivated by the city, particularly due to the high level of its dance scene. This enthusiasm led me to choose Cologne as my base, where I stayed for 20 years. It was there that my career as a dancer and choreographer began.
My love for dance and foreign cultures took me to Los Angeles in 2002, among other places, to the renowned dance studio "The Edge." The following year, I traveled to Brazil, specifically to Salvador de Bahia, where I participated in an international dance program at the "Escola Contemporânea de Dança" and later danced at the "Escola de Dança Funceb Pelourinho." Brazil forever changed my perspective on dance and influenced my approach as an educator.
In the years that followed, my artistic career took me to many international stages and into numerous enriching creative projects, often focusing on the crossover between art forms, which strengthened my vision as a choreographer. I was fortunate to work as a freelance dancer worldwide and to contribute my art in various contexts.
In 2005, I founded the talent development project "Hot Per Suit" in Cologne and began teaching dance and performance at the Deutsche Pop Academy. Nurturing talent became central to my work.
In 2007, I took the step of founding my own dance studio, MADCITY Cologne, significantly impacting the dance scene in Cologne and contributing to the diversity of dance styles in the city, paving the way for many talents in the industry.
Over the following 8 years, I had the pleasure of participating in more than 60 live shows on TV and in theaters, as well as various interesting projects ranging from stage to film to fashion. My choreography for the German Television Award, my productions at Fashion Week Berlin, or the theater production "Snowhite" at the Bonn Opera are just a few examples of my artistic diversity.
The turning point in my artistic career came in 2015 when I began incorporating yoga into my work and delving deeper into alternative dance pedagogical techniques. The fusion of dance and yoga became the essence of my work and has since influenced all my creations. As an experienced dancer, choreographer, and dance educator, I combine my skills and imagination to create magical moments.
In 2015, I started exploring India as my source of inspiration. After some yoga training, I found a second home in the art and dance scene there. The last years of my artistic life have been significantly shaped by my work in India. The cultural diversity and the seemingly endless possibilities for creative exchange continue to impress me. I had the opportunity to collaborate with renowned choreographers and dancers in India and participate in productions for the Jungle Dance Theatre in Arambol/Goa, Vinyasa Dance Ashram/Jaipur, and PlayPractice/Bangalore.
My artistic work is characterized by experience, personal highs and lows, socio-critical themes, and unconventional creative processes. As a choreographer, I always seek authenticity and the space in between. My focus lies not on specific body techniques but on the authentic expressive power of each individual and the fusion of art forms.
My strengths lie not only in my extensive experience but also in my ability to work in teams and bring depth to my artistic works. The passion for dance and dedication to my art drive me to constantly discover new paths and continually advance my artistic development. I draw from a rich reservoir of life experiences, cultural encounters, and travels that have expanded my horizons and nurtured my creativity.
As a choreographer, I have worked in various fields, including TV and film productions, theater, advertising (including NOKIA, PORSCHE, VW), and fashion (including L’OREAL, DIESEL, NIKE, ASICS). Particularly noteworthy is my choreography for the rock musical "Snowhite" at the Bonn Opera in 2012, which garnered enthusiasm from both audiences and the press. Also remarkable is the dance theater piece "The Others," performed in the Cologne Kulturbunker in 2014, and the dance theater piece "We Don't Have to Do Anything," which caused a sensation in Cologne in 2018. In 2022, I choreographed the piece "Mystic Journey" for the Erzstift in Cologne.
My artistic work today is characterized by my deep connection with yoga, which has become an integral part of my creative processes. The fusion of dance and yoga has enriched my expression and led to the development of my training method BUDY Flow. Thanks to generous support from the Cultural Foundation in 2021, I was able to research and confirm the effectiveness of the technique. Currently, I am summarizing the insights gained from this research into a non-fiction book.
In 2019, I inherited a historic half-timbered house in Ilmenau, which is why since 2020, I have mainly lived and worked in Ilmenau and Berlin.
In 2023 I started The NOWbodies, a Contemporary Collective for immersive Performances and Dance.
